  1. Wow! Why are the rates for international tourists waaaay higher compared to others? Just curious.

    1. Foreigners visiting Philippine landmarks like Kalanggaman Island are charged higher than locals because locals pay taxes to the government and a fraction of this tax money goes to DENR that maintains and conserves the country's natural resources.

Also, foreigners coming to the Philippines can obviously afford these rates, having flown in for vacation in the first place. Think about converting the tourist rate to dollars or pounds, it's even cheaper than a meal back in their country.

  8. Your difference on rates is a perfect example why Philippines won't be a preferred tourist destination. Filipinos don't get this huge difference on rates when traveling abroad as tourist.

Disappointng and embarrassing that we take advantage of foreign tourists this way. You're not the first to do in Philippines but needs room for improvement.
Lovely place though, please take care of it.

    1. What's disappointing and embarrassing is how ignorant and judgemental you are. It is untrue that in other countries locals and foreign tourist don't get a huge differences on rates. A great example of these would be in Thailand (a country with consistently high foreign tourist arrival and has a large tourism industry), on one of the top tourist destination the Grand Palace, locals actually do not pay entrance fees and foreign tourist pay around thb 500. Also locals should pay less because it should be their inherent right to enjoy and appreciate their own country/place.

    3. I AGREE. Pinoy ako and every time na magvisit ako ng Philippines sobrang tiniiake advantage mga tourists. Kaya nga sila bumibisita sa Philippines to see the beauty of the place and experience the hospitality of the people pero OA kung itake advantage. It should be fair for all.. we are all tourists after all.

In addition to that, whenever I go to western countries and here in Australia wala namang international tourists vs local rates noh! Kaya whoever you are, baka ikaw ang ignorant and judgemental. Have some class!

    4. Hi,

Just saying here. I think foreigners should really have cheaper price because they are not entitled to the government taxes. Yes, they can pay for maintenance but do not include tax. Well, that is okay if they can refund the taxes when they get out of the country.
Anyway, that is there policy. Just respect that.

    6. I've been to other places and the price difference is WAY CHEAPER in Kalanggaman Island as opposed to other countries:

Borubudor ( Indonesia ) - $15 USD for foreigners, 20k IDR for locals; Taj Mahal ( India ) - 750 INR for foreigners, 20 INR for locals; Angkor Wat ( Cambodia ) - $20 USD (1 day) for foreigners; free for locals. Before you comment, please research first or better yet, travel to other places so you'll be informed with FACTS. Happy Reading everyone! :D

    8. Its called Milking the cow... earn the quick buck where you can. Haven't you heard?
And those who're talking about locals paying taxes and tourists not... did you realize that tourists are pumping in dollars into your economy? And that they paid for a visa when they arrived, and probably paid a lot as "tips" on their way thru the country?

      Delete
    9. Don't call that dude a smart-ass for correcting somebody's false & misinformed comment. The first poster shouldn't have made a generalized statement about how it doesn't happen elsewhere. Cambodia and Indonesia do the same thing and there are way too many tourists there, IMO.

I think actually charging tourists a fee is a good way to ensure sustainable maintenance and care for natural resources. The way Palompon set it up with fees and a daily tourist limit is good environmentally.

Look at what happened to Boracay. It was free and had no measures to control development and tourism. Now the island's ecosystem is trashed and it's overrun with tourists. Not exactly paradise now.

So I say good job, Kalanggaman! Keep up the sustainable tourism management.

    10. Just curious, who're considered as "international tourists" and who as locals? If I'm a longstayer and have ACR card in PH - am I local or still international bcos my face is not sufficiently brown?

      Delete
    11. Just because other countries choose to make a notable difference in fees, does not mean that everyone has to follow. Sure, there needs to be environmental fees for maintenance etc. and a limit to the daily admittance to the island, but note it is just as costly for foreigners to travel to Palompon as for Filipinos from all over the country.

Side note: Discussions are granted, and they are subjective, but everyone should really try and keep a more positive tone (it is not nice to call anyone ignorant if they may have said something you do not agree with).

Done the Bacuit archipelago on Palawan on our last trip to the Philippines, where the tax for 10 days for ALL the islands was 200PP. We would gladly pay more, because it was worth every peso. One day entry for 500PP is just too much for us budget travellers. We'll find another island paradise. I hope you guys enjoy the trip!

I have travelled the world and it feels so good that in some places like the Caribbean, there's no such thing as discrimination. Anybody can come and enjoy beautiful and elegant resorts without having to pay any entrance fee whether local or tourist. Some wouldn't feel the difference especially if you have not travelled and experience discrimation. God gave us beautiful places to enjoy, might as well share it to the world with fairness and equality because in the end these tourist can pne day be our ally. God bless us all.
